animal testing & alternatives
Cats, dogs, mice, rabbits, rats, primates, and cold blooded animals make up more than 95 percent of the animals used in experiments every year. These animals are susceptible to unusual behavior and mental problems due to the stress placed upon them. In cosmetic testing, household cleaners and other products are used to poison, blind, and kill hundreds of thousands of animals every year. According to PETA, The government spends more than $16 billion in taxpayers' money on animal testing. Most of these experiments and tests aren't even required by law, yet these companies still choose to perform them.
Most animals used for experimentation and testing have very little in common with humans, so all the testing is done basically for nothing. A variety of new procedures are cell-based and tissue models are also being used to test the safety of drugs, chemicals, cosmetics, and other consumer products. This type of testing is called in vitro testing.
